Windell Ray Austin, a life-long faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully in his home on August 2, 2025 making his stay here on earth 77 years, 5 months, and 10 days.
Windell was born on February 23, 1948 to Ivalene and Ernest Austin. He married the love of his life, Darcus, on December 31, 1965 in Clintwood, Virginia. He accepted Jesus into his heart in 1966. In 1972 he followed his calling as a preacher of the word. His greatest joy was serving the Lord at Haymond Freewill Baptist Church and spending time with his family. One of his greatest hopes was that his family would be saved, serve the Lord, and meet him again in Heaven. He truly loved his family & Church family with all his heart. One of his favorite verses was, "If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Windell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darcus Austin of Haymond, Kentucky. Three daughters, Kim (Scotty) Sturgill of Haymond, Kentucky, Wendy (Larry) Johnson of Haymond, Kentucky, and Tabitha Austin (Chad) of Isom, Kentucky. His grandchildren: Steven (Brittney) Sturgill of Haymond, Kentucky, and Kandace (Noah) Blair of Sandlick, Kentucky. Great grandchildren: Aubrey, Elijah, and Olivia Sturgill. One brother, Jim (Vickie) Austin, three sisters: Trish Baker, Sandy (Lonnie) Davis, and Joyce Holbrook, and a host of nieces and nephews to mourn his passing.
Windell is preceded in death by his parents, Ivalene and Ernest Austin. A daughter, Deborah Ann Austin. A Grandson, Nathan Tyler Sturgill. Two brothers: Billy and Ernest Jr. Austin.
