Obituary for Martha J. Mayerchak
Martha Mayerchak retired from the Harlan County Health Department where she worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. She was a healer and caregiver by nature and truly enjoyed working with people, only wanting the best for everyone.

Martha was a very family oriented woman, always putting the needs of her family above her own. She prided herself on being the best mother and no matter what, her children came first and that did not change until her her last breath.

She cared for her husband, George, for many years of illness without complaint, and would not have had it any other way. She cared for her beloved sister, Patti, in the same way, despite having health problems of her own.

Martha was of the Catholic faith, she was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Cumberland, Ky. As a devout Christian, she was confident in her beliefs. She did not fear passing on because she trusted that she was going to a better place where she would be reunited with George, her sisters, and brother.

Martha had a really, really good soul. She was a kind, friendly and loving woman who never met a stranger and had a smile for everyone. But those who knew her best know Martha also had another side. She was tough and intolerant of nonsense. Her expectations of her family and friends were high and she had no sympathy for excuses, sob stories, poor behavior, or laziness. When expectations were not met, you had better be ready because what you were about to experience was affectionately known as “the business” from Martha.

She did not hold back when it mattered and would defend her loved ones fiercely. If any hurt or threat came to someone she loved, the situation would be dealt with aggressively. Everyone knew if you crossed Martha you would have a tiger by the tail.

Martha was one of a kind. She lived exactly how she wanted. She was strong, tough, good and kind. She was happy. She left this world exactly how she wanted. She was home, sitting in her favorite chair watching TV.

George, her sisters and the Good Lord had better be ready for her or they are going to get the “business” from Little Martha.
