Obituary for Jimmy "General" Bates
Jimmy "General" Bates, son of the late John Wallace and Thelma Day Bates was born at Whitesburg, Kentucky, November 11, 1943. He entered eternal life Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, Kentucky being 74 years, 6 months and 13 days of age at the time of his passing.
Jimmy was a loving brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him. He was a member of the Whitesburg Masonic Lodge No. 754, VFW Post No. 5829, American Legion No. 152, Mountain Shrine Club, L.K.L.P, Pass State Commander for V.F.W. and served on the Whitesburg City Council for over 25 years. Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Vietnam.
He is survived by three sisters; Joyce Daniels of Pikeville, Kentucky, Patty Black of Columbus, Georgia and Debbie Eldridge of Whitesburg, Kentucky. Two brothers; Jesse (Stella) Bates of Whitesburg, Kentucky and Greg (Suzanna) Lucas of London, Kentucky.
Also surviving are four very close friends, Charles Colwell, Larry Everidge, James Wiley Craft, Elmer Hammonds and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, David Bates. Two sisters; Barbara Lucas and Jean Sexton.
