Obituary for Janet B. Fleming
Janet Lee Banks Fleming, daughter of the late Durward and Loretta Blevins Banks, was born at Whitesburg, Kentucky, on March 22, 1952. She entered eternal life following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, making her stay on earth 62 years, 5 months and 12 days of age. Jan was a graduate of Fleming-Neon High School class of 1970. She graduated in 1971 from the Academy of Beauty in Lexington, Kentucky. She came home to Letcher County and worked as a beautician for several years. Jan was married the love of her life Stevie Fleming on November 16, 1984. Together they were avid supporters of Fleming-Neon Elementary and High School Football programs. They were also supporters and sponsors of the Yankee T-Ball Team and the Banks Braves Little League Team. Jan and Susie coached the Rockies Minor League Team. She also served as the President of the Fleming-Neon Little League. She was Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Xi Alpha Pi. She and Steve owned and operated Fleming Superette for 20 years. Before that, she and her sisters owned and operated Letcher Flower Shop for 14 years. Jan, Loretta and Susie were baptized on June 4, 1972. Jan is survived by her devoted husband Steve of Fleming. Her sons; Steven Ray (Brandi) of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Deven Chase (Angela) of Rutledge, Tennessee and Shane Allen of Fleming. Jan was the proud "Gram" of her granddaughter Anna Grace and her grandson Mason Chase that will arrive in December. She is also survived by two sisters; Sheila B. Holbrook of Tolliver Town, Susan B. Polis (David) of Neon. A brother Archie (Glenda) of Colson. A Uncle and Aunt Bob and Patty Blevins of Woodridge, Virginia. Jan leaves a large number of Nieces and Nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
