Obituary for James W. Sapp
James William Sapp of Cromona, Kentucky, formerly of Newport, Tennessee, and originally from Pikeville, Tennessee, passed from this life at home among family members, to eternal life in Heaven, Saturday, July 28, 2012. He was born at Tip Top in Bledsoe County, Tennessee on July 15, 1926 making his stay on earth eighty-six (86) years, one (1) week, six (6) days. Mr. Sapp honorably served his country, enlisting in the United States Navy on December 4, 1951. His service spanned the Korean War, being deployed aboard the USS Pittsburgh, USS Roanoke, and the USS Iowa. Mr. Sapp attained the rank of Machinist Mate - Second Class, having the responsibility of the generators and air compressors in the third and fourth of four, fire rooms. Three (3) days prior to his honorable discharge on December 4, 1955, four (4) years to the day of his enlistment, Mr Sapp successfully completed the examination for First Class Machinist Mate - Petty Officer First Class, however his rating change was not scheduled to occur until after his discharge date. Mr. Sapp was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pikeville, Tennessee. He enjoyed farming and raising horses, being especially proud of his white and brown spotted, racking mule, Alice. Mr. Sapp was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Louise Sexton Sapp; his parents, William Jennings (Bill) Sapp and Dixie Lee Martin Sapp; sister, Frances Sapp Walker; brothers; Marshall Aldrich Sapp, Judge Edward Hull Sapp, Leftric Lee (Billy) Sapp, and Thomas Franklin Sapp. Mr. Sapp is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Diane Wiseman, Cromona, Kentucky; Ruth and Gary Burton, Pikeville, Tennessee; Marianne and Keith Anderson, Jenkins, Kentucky; Kimberly and Danny Allen, McRoberts, Kentucky; grandchildren, Melissa, Keith, Ashley, Michael, Dana, Nikki, Roxanna, Audrey, Brad, Gage, Chase, Alex, Brooke, Shae, Paige, Kayla, Emily, Bethany, Stacy, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Jae-Leigh, Rayne, and Bree; Three sisters: Betty Jane Griffin of Georgia; Jeanelle Cunningham and Joann Turner both of Pikeville, Tennessee .special nieces and nephews, Chris, Marsha, Breyer, Jaxon, Justin, Lesley, Bob, Genese, Brad, and Jeffrey.
