Obituary for Harold E." Hoss" Vermillion

Harold E. "Hoss" Vermillion, son of the late William Irby Vermillion and Ava Pendleton Vermillion and step-mother, Gertrude Banks Vermillion. Hoss was born in Letcher County, Kentucky March 16, 1919 and entered eternal life Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, Kentucky being 93 years, 11 months, and 26 days of age at the time of his passing. Hoss married Walleen M. Collins August 10, 1948 in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Walleen passed away August 13, 2001. Hoss was a member of the 1937 graduating class of the Stuart Robinson High School. He was drafted in to the United States Army Air Corps in 1943 and served during World War II in the Eurpean Theater. Hoss managed Letcher Insurance Agency on Main Street in Whitesburg for 42 years. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable garden. Hoss collected cook books and cooking utensils. He was a member and deacon of the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Whitesburg and was very active in the Whitesburg Lions Club. He also served as a board member and director of the Whitesburg Housing Authority. Hoss is survived by his primary caretakers nephew William C. and Charolette Vermillion of Hebron, Kentucky and his niece Anna D. and Carl Hall of Whitesburg. Also surviving are relatives and special friends including sister-in-law Judith Vermillion of Whitesburg and brother-in-law Joe E. Carr of Knoxville, Linda and David Clark of Whitesburg, and a host of nieces and nephews to celebrate his life. Hoss was preceded in death by his son, Harold Sanders Vermillion, three brothers, Paul, William, and Eugene, four sisters Virginia Pigman, Nell Carr, Hilma Black, and Hazel Walters.
