Obituary for Gyrt Cook
Gyrtle June "Gyrt" Cook, daughter of the late Bascum and Polly Ann Vance Hall, was born December 30, 1932 in Pine Top, Kentucky. She entered eternal life on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at her home in Whitesburg, Kentucky being 88 years, 9 months and 27 days at the time of her passing.
Gyrt married James Cook on September 22, 1954 in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He passed away on December 26, 2000. Gyrt enjoyed talking about the bible with others, reading, family reunions and cooking for the people she loved. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and great friend to all who knew her. She was a 50 year member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church in Millstone, Kentucky.
She is survived by three sons: Jerry "Pooch" (Diane) Cook of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Jeff (Kathy) Cook of Versailles, Kentucky and Terry and fiance (Deanna) Cook of Mayking, Kentucky, one daughter: Jennifer (William) Hall of Whitesburg, Kentucky, one sister: Betty Lou Boynton of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Eight grandchildren: Angie Lucas, Shawna Allen, Justin Cook, Bo Cook, Jordan Cook, Kassie Cook, Wesley Hall and Matthew Hall. She was also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger "Bo" Cook. A grandson, Jeremy Cook. Five brothers, Harold Hall, John Edison Hall, Delmar Hall, James Hall and Billy Hall. Two sisters, Mary Rose Stephens and Charma Sue McLin.
