Obituary for Gurnie Phil Maggard
Gurnie Phil Maggard, son of the late Charlie B and Berta Collins Maggard was born at Isom, Kentucky, September 3, 1940. He entered eternal life Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Greg-Noreen Wells Hospice Center at Hazard, Kentucky being 79 years and 5 days of age at the time of his passing.
Gurnie married Anna Lee Adams Maggard, June 16, 1962. He had taught school for 32 years and drove the bus for 41 years. Gurnie was a member of the National Education Association, Kentucky Education Association, Board Of Directors of Letcher County Teachers Credit Union and a member of the Little Colly Baptist Church. He also ran and operated Maggard's Store for 45 years along with his wife. Gurnie enjoyed spending time with his family and watching and supporting Coach Maggard's team.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anna Lee Maggard of Isom, Kentucky. One son, Larry (Shannon) Maggard of Isom, Kentucky. A daughter, Maronda (Ricky) Gibson of Horse Cave, Kentucky.
Also surviving are five grandchildren; William Kelly (Hanna) Gibson, Kaycee (Kyle) Gibson, Kandace Gibson, Charlie Maggard, Emma Grace Maggard and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Gurnie was preceded in death by three brothers: Larry Dwight Maggard, Jim Maggard, and Jack Frazier and one sister, Bobbie Jean F. Collins.
