Obituary for Finley "Drum" Bates
Finley "Drum" Bates, son of the late Martin and Anges Bates was born in Whitesburg, Kentucky, September 27, 1939. He entered eternal life Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital being 78 years, 6 months and 17 days of age at the time of his passing.
Finley was married to Martha Fleming Bates in 1962. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. Finley was a member of the Colson Pentecostal Church at Colson, Kentucky. He enjoyed working in his garden and picking up scrap metal.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Bates of Millstone, Kentucky. Two daughters; Lettie (Woody) Brown of Millstone, Kentucky and Goldie Collins of Braden, Florida. Two sons; Charles (Tracey) Bates of Jonesboro, Tennessee and Thomas Bates of Millstone, Kentucky. One brother, Jessie Bates of Sergent, Kentucky. Two sisters; Pearlie Bates of Thornton, Kentucky and Tootsie Bates of McRoberts, Kentucky.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Finley was preceded in death by two great grandchildren; Casen and Colton. Two brothers; Sonny Bates and Linville Bates. One sister, Martin Nettie Bates.
