Obituary for Elmer Elwood Bates
Elmer Elwood Bates, son of the late Riley and Lavena Taylor Sexton was born in Letcher County, Kentucky, March 5, 1943. He entered eternal life Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky being 70 years, 11 months and 3 days of age at the time of his passing. Elmer was married to Helen Banks Bates, December 19, 1964. He was a loving husband, dad, pap, brother and friend to all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Helen Bates of Whitesburg, Kentucky. Two daughters; Lee Adams and husband Larry and children Brittney and Zach all of Whitesburg, Kentucky. Lisa Bates and Dexter Campbell and a special little friend, Hunter all of Letcher, Kentucky. One son, Chad Bates and wife Amy and children, Mia and Cooper all of Whitesburg, Kentucky. One brother, Wade Sexton of Myra, Kentucky. Two sisters; Betty Rather of Louisville, Kentucky and Cora Walker of Middletown, Ohio. Also surviving are a host of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, family and friends to mourn his family. Elmer was preceded in death by two brothers; John and Wilmer. Two sisters; Juanita and Leona.
