Obituary for E. Rachel Pack
Emily Rachel Pack, 85, of Gilman Bottom departed this life November 6, 2021 at Hilltop, West Virginia after a sudden illness.
She was the daughter of the late Elbert and Laura Wampler Day. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pack by her four sons, one infant daughter, six brothers, and three sisters and one granddaughter.
She was of the Baptist faith. Born in Letcher County, Kentucky Emily Rachel Pack found love with her husband Joe Pack and moved to the hills of Logan County, West Virginia where she would raise her family of six children. "Mawmaw" as most affectionately called her would work as a cook for over 20 years. Post retirement, Mawmaw would spend her free time quilting, fishing, gardening and helping anyone in need. Her free time would see her surrounded by her beloved grandchildren. Mawmaw would find herself as a matriarch of her community, earning her nickname by being a grandmother figure to all. Not only her grandchildren, but also to many others in the community.
She is survived by one son, Theodore (Candy) Pack of Hanover, West Virginia. Two daughter-in-laws; Jeannie Pack Gordon and Sue Pack whom was her caregiver for many years. Four brothers; Charles (Shirley) Day of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Floyd Ralph Day and Curtis Day both of Charlestown, Indiana and Paul Day of Texas. A sister-in-law, Beverly Day of Lexington, Kentucky. Eleven grandchildren; Charles Pack, Susan Marie Simmons, Rachel Pack, Ted (Elizabeth) Pack, Cassandra Freeman, Emily Rose Pack, Bobby (Becky) Pack, Kimberly (Kenneth) Vance, Jack Garcia, Jesse (Amy) Pack, Austin Pack.
Also surviving are a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many other friends and relatives to mourn her passing.
