Obituary for Deborah K. Hogg
Deborah Kay Hogg, resident of Kona, Letcher County Kentucky passed on the 17th day of October, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center at the age of 62. She was born August 10,1954 to the late Maynerd and Evaleen Hogg. Debbie graduated Fleming-Neon High School in 1972 She then attended Harlan ARH School of Professional Nursing were she graduated in 1976 and began her long career in Nursing after working in the nursery at Harlan ARH, Debbie obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at East Tennessee State University. She then completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Kentucky and found her true calling in Nursing education. she taught nursing at Kentucky Community and Technical College System for a career spanning twenty three years. Following her 2008 cancer diagnosis, she retired from nursing education in 2010. Debbie now has the next generation following in her footsteps. She ended her career in 2013 with Mountain Instant Care which, along side her niece,Larissa Hogg Bailey,she founded in 2010. Debbie has not only impacted the lives of the students she taught, but indirectly touched a countless number of patients cared for by those nurses.Compassion and service to others was of the upmost importanceto Debbie. As a member of the Neon Community Lions Club, she led efforts toward the establishment of the student nursing center at Letcher County Central High School. Debbie served on several advisory boards during her life including Hospice of the Bluegrass, Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation, The Letcher County Tourism Committee and the Esta Craft Conway Center for Domestic Violence to name a few. As a result of he fundraising efforts, upon completion of the Build, Heal and Thrive addition to Whitesburg ARH, a labor and delivery room was named in Debbies honor. Debbie was a member of Neon First Church of God and women the Church of God.Debbies greatest enjoyment in life was her family.She loved her Nephew and Niece as her own.She often spoke of her greatest blessing in life,which she considered to be, having the opportunity to be present at the birth of and to give the first baths to all of her great nieces and nephew.Debs Diner, as she called it, was open every monday night for the family to gather and eat. Deborah is survived by her loving brother Paul M Hogg (Sandy) of Kona:Nephew:Jason Paul Hogg (Tina) of Kona Niece:Larissa Hogg Bailey:(Nathan) of Kona Great Nephew Grant Cooper Bailey:Great Nieces:Sophia Grace Hogg, Allisandra Blake Bailey andJaci Harper Hogg.Deborah is also survived by a special cousinTeresa Hogg and her son David Ethen Hogg, Deborah was preceded in death by her parents Maynerd and Evaleen Hogg.
