Obituary for Charles E. Banks

Charles Ernest Banks, 86, of Letcher county, Kentucky passed away on January 9, 2021 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg. Charles, known by those he loved as Charlie or Choppy, was born on March 11, 1935 to James and Ida Stallard Banks in Ice, KY. Charles was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and proudly accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was in high school.
Charles was well known in the community for his love of farming and gardening, for which people traveled from long distances to buy his produce and plants. He was an avid animal lover and could often be found with his chickens or caring for a hurt stray animal. In his early years, he was a passionate Kentucky basketball fan, which earned him the nickname Cawood amongst friends and family. His greatest joy was in helping to care for his mother and, in later years, many of his nieces and nephews. Charles had many talents, amongst which were woodworking and sketching.
Charles was proceeded in death by his parents, James and Ida Stallard Banks, and nine siblings: Clay Banks, Elsie Aouate, James Banks, Elizabeth Bolling, Rosa Tyree, Billy Kay Banks, Jackson Banks, and infants Melissa Banks and Chalice Banks. He is survived by a loving sister, Josephine Banks, several nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children, a special cousin who helped care for him, Doris Banks, and friend and caregiver Kathy Niece.
