Obituary for Carrie B. Browning
Carrie B. Browning, a long time resident of Harlan, Kentucky, died peacefully on January
3, 2022 at the age of 95 at Letcher Manor in Whitesburg.

Born in 1926 in Cumberland, Kentucky to Floyd and Lucinda Hodge Bush. She later moved to Harlan where she worked for many years at the Louellen Hotel. Later, Carrie opened her own restaurant, Carrie's Restaurant, in downtown Harlan. She served her countless loyal customers her famous corn bread and chicken and dumplins for many years until she retired in 2005. Carrie was a member of the Sunshine Baptist Church.

The simplest pleasures in life brought happiness to Carrie. She loved good food, Elvis Presley, and a strong cup of black coffee. She thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Her pride was never more on display than when she was with her children and grandchildren.

Carrie is survived by three children; her loving son, William (Bill) Browning and wife, Judy of Harlan; her devoted daughter, Janice Faye Napier and husband, Wallace of Evarts; and youngest daughter, Rhonda Parker of Harlan. Her seven surviving grandchildren include Jeff Brashears (Tonya) of Tazewell; Deron Brashears (Missy) of Tazewell; Davina Bowlin; Joe Adams (Kathy) of Whitesburg; Brandi Adams of Georgetown; Michelle Pinkston (Paul) of Versailles; and Eric Browning (Kimberly) of Lexington. She is also survived by many great grandchildren.

Carrie was preceded in death by three children, JD Browning, Betty Brashears, and Vicella Adams, and two grandchildren, Greg Brashears and beloved granddaughter, Melissa Napier Granato.

A private family service will be held at Green Acres Cemetery in Whitesburg, Ky. on Saturday, January 8, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Melissa Napier Granato scholarship fund. Evarts High School Alumni Association P.O. Box 782 Evarts, Kentucky 40828.
