Obituary for Bonita Sue Pigman
Bonita Sue Pigman passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020 at her home at Premium, KY. She was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Pauline Sexton Ison from Premium, KY. She was born on August 21, 1959 being 61 years, 1 month of age at the time of her passing.
Bonita attended Morehead State University and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in elementary education. She later earned her Rank I from Union College. She taught English at Whitesburg Middle School, Fleming-Neon Elementary, Cowan Elementary and Letcher Middle School. After 30 plus years of teaching, she retired from the Letcher County School System and continued to serve as a substitute teacher. Teaching was in her blood and she loved seeing her students excel. Bonita served as a cheerleading coach and academic coach for several years.
Bonita met Jimmy "Ferrel" Pigman through a friend. After only dating four months, she married the love of her life in January 1981. Together, they raised three sons: Daryn, Josh, and Jeremy. Ferrel lost his battle with cancer in July 2019.
Bonita was a very talented seamstress and quilter; skills she learned from her mother. She loved to can and preserve food and always cooked for a crowd. She never met a stranger and had an amazing knack for remembering names and stories about past and current events. If she was not sewing or quilting, she was watching old westerns on television, and she looked forward to listening to Pastor Dylan Combs church service on Sundays. She always valued the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Bonita will forever be remembered for her generosity, willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, love of family and friends, and wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by three sons: Jimmy Daryn (Crystal) of Scuddy, KY; Joshua Dwayne (Deidra) of Morehead, KY; and Jeremy David (Sadie) of Isom, KY; six grandchildren: Emma, Grant, Makinna, Hayley, Conner, and Hayden Luke; two sisters: Barbara Ison, Premium, KY; and Linda (Wayne) Wright of Cynthiana, KY; a special niece, Jessica Frazier, and other family members and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by one sister: Anita Riley of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bonita's passing is a loss to family and friends, but it is a celebration of the life of a person who was loved and respected by many. She will remain in the hearts of all those who had the good fortune to know her.
